How many memory care (SCALF) licenses are there around Birmingham?
ADPH lists 25 specialty care assisted living licenses in the seven counties (Jefferson 13, Shelby 7, Walker 2, Blount 3), with 898 licensed beds; 18 share an address with a regular ALF license on the same campus.
Every SCALF must meet Table A minimum staffing, employ an RN and a physician medical director and train staff in Alabama's DETA dementia curriculum. The table shows each license's beds and its newest posted ADPH survey.
Why does the SCALF license matter for memory care?
In Alabama only a SCALF may secure exits for residents with dementia, so a memory care unit that is not covered by a SCALF license is not operating under the state's memory care rules.
